Dear Prepaid.com / Vesta,

I am writing this letter with deep gratitude for trusting and believing in my future and in all my goals that I have achieved and will be pursuing in my life. I want to extend my appreciation and happiness in receiving the Prepaid.com Hispanic College Fund Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year.

My family believes in my potential, but I would simply remain a promising student without your help. I want to take this time to thank Vesta Corporation, the Prepaid.com Hispanic College Fund Scholarship committee, and anyone else who directly or indirectly helped raise money for this scholarship. Your philanthropic actions reflect a focus on the youth who will influence the future of the US and the world.

A little about me: I am from Laredo, TX. I am the first in my family to graduate from college and attend professional school. I graduated from Duke University with a BS in Evolutionary Anthropology (Distinction), an AB in Spanish (High Distinction), and a minor in Chemistry. I will be entering Columbia University College of Dental Medicine to become a dentist. I plan on practicing dentistry, teaching at a dental school, and conducting oral tissue engineering and bone regeneration research. I also plan to participate in community dentistry by expanding the Missions of Mercy Clinics around the country that offer free dental services to the underserved populations.  - Jose

En primer lugar, espero que se encuentre bien. Les escribo para darles las gracias por considerarme para esta beca para el próximo año académico. Le aseguro que su inversión con respecto a mi educación superior es muy apreciada no sólo por mí, sino por toda mi familia también.

Yo vengo de un origen muy humilde. A través de los años, las dificultades de la agricultura han causado que mis padres no puedan proporcionar el financiamiento necesario para mi educación. El saber que tengo un recurso financiero con esta beca, no sólo reduce algunas tensiónes financieras para mí, sino que también alivia el estrés de mis padres el saber que voy a poder continuar mi educación.

Yo creo profundamente que organizaciones como la suya son las que realmente hacen la diferencia en nuestras comunidades y en la población hispana. Gracias a su apoyo y contribución, estoy a un paso más serca de lograr mis metas profesionales. Gracias por darle oportunidades a estudiantes como yo, y gracias por ayudarnos a desarrollar como los profesionales del mañana. Yo atribuyo gran parte de mi éxito a aquellos que han apoyado y patrocinado mi carrera educativa. Una vez más, les doy las gracias por su apoyo.

First of all, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to thank you for considering me for a scholarship opportunity for the upcoming academic year. I assure you that your investment towards my higher education is greatly appreciated by not only myself, but by my entire family as well.

I come from a very humble background. Through the years, the hardships of farming have held my parents back from providing funding for my education. By knowing that I have a financial resource, the scholarship award, this not only alleviates some financial stress from me, but it also alleviates the stress from my parents by knowing that I will be able to continue my education.

I truly believe that it is organizations like yours that really make a difference in our communities and our Hispanic population. Thanks to your support and contribution, I am one-step closer towards achieving my career goals. Thank you for providing students like me with these opportunities and thank you for helping us develop into the business professionals of tomorrow.
